Estate Planning
Estate plans usually consist of a Will, a General Power of Attorney, a Health Care Power of Attorney, and a Living Will. Some estate plans include documents which involve real estate affidavits or deeds. Each family has different needs, so customized documents are usually the best choice (as opposed to online legal service plans or “free simple wills” found around the web). A little thought up front saves many headaches and expenses down the road.
Some families are good candidates for Trusts, in addition to their Wills. Trusts give people a way to control how their assets are distributed to their children or other family members if those people are too young (or otherwise unable) to manage money. Trusts give people more control and flexibility than a will alone, and, since they are customized to each situation, they usually cost slightly more than basic estate planning documents.

Probate / Estate Administration
Estate Administration occurs when someone passes away and there are assets in that person’s estate which need to be distributed. Some items are addressed in a will, and some items, such as bank accounts, may have designations which keep them out of the probate process. If you are named in a will as an Executor, or if you need to administer an estate, I will assist you as you navigate the steps necessary to work through and close the estate.
